Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features several notable changes:

  • Every squad has just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers seeking alternative ways to enjoy the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.

Player Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while someone else details everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback

All that said, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
