Hulu is Producing a Popular Game TV Show from the Creators of the Alien Series and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

The most recent action-packed game that audiences dived into was Far Cry 6, that featured Giancarlo Esposito as the villain, Antón, and debuted back in October 6, 2021. Throughout the franchise, it is known for embracing action and insanity with similar glee, all while telling gripping, ideologically themed stories. No wonder then that the network’s new order for a Far Cry limited-run show attracted two creators whose creations have represented all of those elements.

What to Expect

Inspired by Ubisoft's popular video game property, the limited anthology series is set to premiere on Hulu and is being made by FX Productions. The series will also follow the video games' format by having a fresh setting and ensemble in each season.

Executive Team

Rob Mac, mastermind of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the talent behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will serve as showrunners on the series through their companies, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be accompanied by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.

The network enjoyed magnificent partnerships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a collective six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are thrilled that they are working together for Far Cry,” commented Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a announcement. “I have no doubt that they will present this story in a way that is innovative, engrossing, and extremely entertaining. We also want to acknowledge our collaborators at Ubisoft for entrusting us with this beloved property.”

Cast and Future Plans

Mac will also feature in the show, but at the time of writing, we do not know what role that might entail. Hawley's Alien: Earth was just renewed for more episodes, with FX and Disney agreeing to a new overall deal with the showrunner.

“Being able to collaborate with Noah Hawley is a dream realized,” stated Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been incredibly generous, entrusting us with one of the most famous video-game universes ever created. And along the way, my FX family constantly supports me with their steady trust and assistance.”

“The aspect I admire about the Far Cry game collection is that it’s an standalone series. Every title is a take of a concept, the same way every series of Fargo is a adaptation on a theme,” explained Hawley. “To develop a epic action show that can change from year to year, while always delving into the core of people through this complex and unpredictable viewpoint, is a ultimate goal. I’m thrilled to work with Rob and present our mutual irreverent, visionary sensibility to the audience.”

A schedule for when we can expect the new Far Cry show has not been announced. The series will premiere on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus in other regions.
