Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Chants Targeting Coach Wilder

The striker has joined the Championship side only half a year following starting derogatory taunts targeting the team's coach, Wilder.

This experienced striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a contract joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy career at Elland Road finished amicably this past summer.

One of the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead offensive songs about Chris Wilder amid Leeds' success festivities in April. Now, the former England international is set to play for Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to pull his beloved club away from the bottom places.

Previous Conflict Involving the Striker and Wilder

The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds won promotion back to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the playoffs.

Reconciliation and Moving Forward

Everything appears has been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost up front while Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his playing days.

The song about Wilder spread widely in April. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Chris Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I’ve no problem whatsoever with that. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow professional! But I valued and respected him calling me.

“We spent a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel as well and had a longer discussion together and he is a great person, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and take it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, including Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Career Struggles

Bamford made 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the ex- Forest, Chelsea & Boro striker has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
