Spurs Manager Frank Labels Goalkeeper Booers 'Not Real Supporters'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Beat Tottenham and Raise Tension on the Manager
Spurs fans who booed keeper Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals can't be true Spurs fans" by manager Frank.
Spurs conceded a pair of scores in the first initial moments to lose 2-1 to their opponents, registering their tenth top-flight at home defeat of the year.
However the main topic of discussion was Fulham's next score when the keeper lost possession well outside his box.
He ventured out to handle a high pass and took the ball near the sideline.
But, rather than booting it out of play, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear, but slipped as the ball glanced off Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
The forward passed the ball off to Wales midfielder Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the sideline recorded at thirty-six point six metres.
Seconds later when the ball went to the keeper again, some Tottenham fans jeered him.
The team were jeered off at the interval, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.
One of those jeering episodes truly angered Frank.
"I heard some of our supporters reportedly jeered the incident and booed after, which, in my opinion is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager stated regarding the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"[They] cannot be true Tottenham supporters that do that. Fair enough jeering after the game, fine, but when we are in play, we are supporting one another, we are behind one another going forward."
Kenny Tete had handed Fulham a early lead before Harry Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Tottenham in an improved second period performance.
Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Joe Hart stated that the second goal was "completely avoidable".
"I do understand the supporters' disappointment," Hart added. "I am aware the role Vicario is performing. He is a excellent team player, he's a real figure in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the winning score."
'It's In the Game, I'm a Big Man'
Thomas Frank Defended His Keeper Vicario After the Match
Italian national team the keeper is in his third campaign with Tottenham.
The 29-year-old said after the game that he had to take the feedback.
"The second goal was a error of my own, I take accountability for that," he said.
"My aim was to kick the ball far and I simply struck the ball in a bad way. It was an even bigger challenge to climb."
He said being booed "is part of the game".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the crowd. Supporters have the right to do as they see fit.
"It's on the team to stay more calm, to concentrate on ourselves. We are missing in composure and poise to overturn outcomes. Today is a poor defeat and it's hard to take."
'It Shocked Me Nobody Returned to the Goal Line'
In spite of Vicario's mistake, it was far from an easy goal for Wilson to score.
In fact it was the next most distant top division score of the season – after Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for the Cherries against Sunderland, which incidentally too occurred on the same day.
The goalscorer said he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an open goal to target.
Ten moments elapsed between Vicario coming out of his area and Wilson striking – which was 5 seconds following the kick.
"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was out of the area for a long time," Wilson remarked.
"It amazed me not one of the back four returned to the goal line. When not one of them defended the goal, my eyes sparked a bit.
"Udogie slipped too, which gave me a bit of extra opportunity. Then it was all about trying to achieve the correct connection and place it towards goal. I felt a positive sense, as soon as it left my boot, that it was heading in."
'When You're in a Bad Spell, All Appears to Go Against You'
Jeering While We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unjustifiable - the Manager
While Vicario's error dominated coverage, this was an overall poor performance for Tottenham to continue their home woes.
The match was their 10th at home loss of 2025 in the league, a joint team record matching 1994 and 2003.
The side still have home fixtures against Frank's old side Brentford and champions the Reds to come before the end of the season.
Only one of those victories have come after the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the summer.
"If you are down 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to overcome," said the boss.
"When you're in a bad spell, everything appears to work against you as well – the opening was a deflected shot, the second is a mistake from the keeper.
"This result leaves us in a position where we have suffered an additional match. Each fixture has a unique narrative, this game we lost in the early stages.
"We just need to continue striving. The second half was significantly improved and hopefully something we can use to learn."
Tottenham have lost 4 consecutive home capital clashes for the first time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are recording nine point five shots and three point two efforts on goal per game in the Premier League – their lowest averages on record in a single campaign (since at least 2003-04).
Former Fulham midfielder Murphy commented that Frank has to endure the criticism.
"He must take the criticism," the pundit said. "He has accepted a prestigious job at a major football club with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that accompanies that.
"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
