The Duke of York surrenders his honor as York's Duke.
Prince Andrew is relinquishing his designations, such as the Duke of York, he has announced in a own words.
He has been under increasing attention over his associations with convicted criminal the financier, with requests for the Palace to take measures against him.
That now seems to have caused the prince deciding to voluntarily give up his titles and to give up participation of the Garter Order.
In his statement he said he continued to "strongly refute the claims against me".
"In talks with the sovereign, and my close and wider family, we have decided the ongoing accusations about me distract from the duties of His Majesty and the monarchy," said a statement from the royal.
"I have opted, as I always have, to put my responsibility to my relatives and country first.
"I stand by my resolution five years ago to withdraw from public life.
"With His Majesty's approval, we feel I must now go a further step. I will therefore no longer use my honor or the distinctions which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the claims against me."
He has faced a number of issues, such as a lawsuit he resolved with the plaintiff, inquiries about his finances and his association with an alleged intelligence operative.
He will remain a member of royalty - but will discontinue to be the Duke of York, a designation received from his mother, the former monarch.
Andrew had already ceased to be a "participating figure" and had forfeited the use of his His Royal Highness designation and no longer was seen at official royal events. His status now will be even more lessened.
His previous partner will be known as Sarah Ferguson and no longer the Duchess, but their offspring will carry on to have the designation of royal princess.
The royal has faced severe examination over his associations with notorious figure Jeffrey Epstein, more recently featuring doubts about when he had actually severed contact.
In his media discussion, he had said that he had severed all ties with Epstein after they had been photographed together in NYC in the end of 2010.
But correspondence sent in early 2011 later surfaced suggesting that Andrew had privately continued in contact with Epstein, such as swapping a communication: "Stay in contact and we'll play some more soon!"
There had been increasing displeasure in the monarchy at the issues that persisted to plague the figure.
Next week a posthumous memoir by the accuser will be published which is likely to bring additional attention on the royal's association with Ms Giuffre and the financier.
