The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, diverse, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Each year, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
